Sunset Dental has operated in Ventura County for over 35 years. Dr. Ronald Atanay founded the practice on a straightforward principle: treat every patient the way you would want a family member treated.
The office moved to a single location at 1545 Morse Ave, Suite A, Ventura in September 2022, consolidating services previously split between Ventura and Oxnard so patients get better availability and shorter wait times.
Dr. Atanay earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 1982, one of the top dental programs in California. Before dental school, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Cal State Fullerton and a Radiologic Technology degree at Fullerton City College.
His psychology background informs how he works with patients. He understands dental anxiety and has spent 35+ years building a practice where patients feel at ease before a procedure starts. He explains what he is doing, presents all options, and gives patients time to ask questions.
Outside the office, Dr. Atanay has coached youth football for 30 years and founded the La Habra Cobras youth wrestling club. He has been invested in the communities he serves well beyond dentistry.
Vicky Atanay manages day-to-day office operations and assists Dr. Atanay chairside. Patients who call the office and patients in the chair often work with Vicky directly.
Her role keeps the practice running on schedule and makes sure patients have a consistent, familiar experience at every visit.
Sunset Dental does not run a volume-based practice. Dr. Atanay takes time with each appointment. He uses digital X-rays, which deliver 90% less radiation than traditional film and display immediately on screen for review with the patient. Ultrasonic cleaning tools let the hygiene team reach below the gumline without discomfort.
Same-day appointments are available throughout the week. Patients in pain or with urgent needs are worked in quickly.
Sunset Dental accepts most major dental insurance plans. Non-insured patients receive the $110 Everyday Special: all necessary digital X-rays, a comprehensive exam, and a regular cleaning. Insured patients receive $100 off the copay for crown and bridge work. Payment plans are available.
Tuesday through Friday 8am-5pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday. Serving patients from Ventura, Oxnard, and Camarillo.
